1971 INTERNATIONAL CONTEST, KAUNAS, LITHUANIA

THE BEGINNING.

F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturisme) organized World Weightlifting Championship and annual traditional International Bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ contest in 1959 in Warszawa (Capital of the Polish People‘s Demokratic Republic). People of the Socialist World first time saw „Western“ bodybuilders live. That was done due to the efforts of BOB HOFFMAN who was called „The Father of USA Weightlifting“.  The Over All Winner of the „Mr. Universe“ was GUY MIERCZUK (France).

In 1966 F.I.H.C. organized World Weightlifting Championship and Bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ contest in another Socialist Country again. This time it was East Berlin – capital City of the D.D.R. (German Democratic Republic). The Over All Winner of the „Mr. Universe“ was BOB GAJDA (USA).

F.I.H.C. was a member of the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee). The activities of F.I.H.C. bodybuilding influenced Sport Ministries of the Socialist Countries. First of all it was the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport (Goskomsport, Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.).

Soon a number of National and International competitions were organized in the Socialist World.

The first International Bodybuilding Contest was organized in 1966 in Vilnius (Lithuania Socialist Republic). In 1968 in Kaunas (Lithuania) was organized another International competition. Right after it in 1968 the historic traditional bodybuilding „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, „Янтарный приз») was organized in Klaipeda (Lithuania). „Amber Prix“ is organized until now.

1971. IMPORTANT INTERNATIONAL EVENT.

In 1971 an International Bodybuilding Contest was organized in Kaunas (Lithuania). Bodybuilders of six Socialist Countries participated at the event: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine and Czechoslovakia.

According the old F.I.H.C. traditions all bodybuilding competitions in the Socialist Countries were of two parts: the power one and the free posing. Junior and Senior Groups were divided into three Hight Categories.

Senior Group results:

In the Short Category the Winner was VINCAS DUBICKAS. The second place went to JULIUS GRIZHE and the third to JURAS JANCIAUSKAS (all three competitors were from Lithuania).

In the Middle Category the Winner was VIKTOR CHARKEVICH (Виктор Харкевич).  The second place went to KONSTANTIN BELIKOV (Константин Беликов) and the third one to DALIUS PODERIS  (all three competitors were from Lithuania).

In the High Category the Winner was VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин), at the second place was ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (Александр Лемехов). Both competitors were from Russia). At the third place was VIACESLAV FEDORENKO (Вячеслав Федоренко) from Lithuania.

Junior Group results:

In the Short Category the Winner was KAZYS DAUGELA, the second was EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик) and the third STASYS ALISHAUSKAS.

In the Middle Category the Winner was ARVYDAS MISIURA, the second was VLADAS KAPCEVICHUS and the third was GEDIMINAS BRAZDZIUNAS.

In the High Category the Winner was VALDAS ALIUBAVICHUS, the second was KESTUTIS MACKEVICHUS and the third was ROBERTAS MARTUSEVICHUS.

All top three Junior bodybuilders in all Categories were from Lithuania.

Czechoslovakia was represented by ALEKSANDR BACHINSKY, LADISLAV KLERI, MARIAN JURASH and JAROSLAV SHALNA.

Prominent Lithuania bodybuilders JULIUS GRIEZHE, JURAS JANCAUSKAS, VIKTOR CHARKEVICH, KONSTANTIN BELIKOV, VIACESLAV FEDORENKO, EUGENE GORELIK, ARVYDAS MISIURA, GEDIMINAS BRAZDZIUNAS, VLADAS ALIUBAVICHUS were representing famous „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ that was led by a talanted trainer CESLAV TAMULEVICH (Чеслав Тамулевич). „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ was the only one of this kind in the bodybuilding history of Socialist Countries. In 2020 CESLAV TAMULEVICH with great respect was awarded with the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. „International Silver Honour Medal“.
