WHO AND HOW INFLUENCED CREATION OF „U.S.S.R. BODYBUILDING FEDERATION“.

It comes more freedom in 1986. Bodybuilding is more popular. More and more people were somehow connected and involved in bodybuilding. The time comes closer when in 1987 the recognized by the „U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport“ (U.S.S.R. Goskomsport, Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.) the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federattion“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») was created.

The prohibition and prosecution of bodybuilding in Socialist Countries became formal. In 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS (Др. Эдмундас Даубарас) dared to write bodybuilding defending petition. He personally brought it to Moscow and presenetd to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.) as well as to other highest U.S.S.R. political institutions. No one of Socialist bodybuilders supported DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS then. All were afrayed to be prosecuted. After the petition the prosecution of bodybuilders became softer and softer every year.

Until 1986 during the last years it was VLADIMIR SUBOV (Владимир Шубов) who represented the R.S.F.S.R. at the International Contests in the Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. He was in constant contacts with the „U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport“. To keep the contacts on VLADIMIR SUBOV rented a room at the Headquarters of the Ministry.

How appeared the idea to create the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ which will be recognized by the „U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport“? Why the contemporary President of the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS made huge efforts to return back to sport a former U.S.S.R. bodybuilding star VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин)? Finally DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS brought him to the 1986 „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023) in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). To the 1986 „Amber Prix International“ VLADIMIR DUBININ came as a representative of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg, Ленинград) City as the R.S.F.S.R. was already represented by the above mentioned VLADIMIR SUBOV.

This way after twelve years beak VLADIMIR DUBININ was back to the active sport. In the seventies of the last Century VLADINIR DUBININ was a huge impressive bodybuilder. In contests he lost only to OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR) and PRANAS MURAUSKAS (Lithuanian SSR). He could fight with the athletes like ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER if he could leave the U.S.S.R. to a Contest in the „Western World“ then. But borders of the U.S.S.R. were closed by the „Iron Wall“.

The fact is – until the 1986 meeting at the appartments of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS nobody in the U.S.S.R. had any idea about the new „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“. Everybody was satisfied with the „formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ (Comission, «Visasąjunginės atletinės gimnastikos komisijos») which was since 1979 a part of the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.»).

Why DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was so much unsatisfied with the above mentioned „formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“? This „formal federation“ started working in 1979 right after when in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS brought his bodybuilding defending petition to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party. The „formal federation“ was run by the Chairman a R.S.F.S.R. Weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). The Secretary of it was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. ROMAN MOROZ was not interested in bodybuilding at all so the governing of the „formal federation“ was done by ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. Also several loyal to ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS persons were included in the organization.

In 1983 after graduating his second University by the speciality of Law DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wanted more. According the U.S.S.R. law he aimed to bodybuilding recognition as sport. The example to follow was evident - it was the «National Bodybuilding Federation of the Czechoslovakian SSR». C.S.S.R. Government supported bodybuilders and since 1975 they had possibilities to participate at the International Competitions in the „Western Countries“. Since 1975 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS had personal relations with the Chairmen of the C.S.S.R. Bodybulding Federation. He used to visit the C.S.S.R. Ministry of Spiort (C.S.T.V., Československy Svaz Telesne Vychvy“) several times.

Let us step aside a bit and speak about the International Law in sports. Even today nearly all International Bodybuilding Federations are in problems with law, with registration of federations. After analyzing the documents of most International Federations DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS can state that the N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association), the W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association), the German Part of the W.F.F. (W.F.F. – International, World Fitness Federation) were and still are in problems with the International law. This was the reason that in 1999 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS made official registration of the W.F.F. – International and in 2005 the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International. Do You want to know EVERYTHING“ about any federation? Being back to the „formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ we would like to remind several facts. For two years DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS together with the Chairman of the

„C.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ VOJTECH FIALA was working on a common Project. The Project covered two International Contests between the National Bodybuilding Teams of the U.S.S.R. and the C.S.S.R.. One Contest was to be held in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR) and another in the C.S.S.R.. When ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS learned that the idea and the work done by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS he ruinerd the plans. Also basing on his ego he ruined and tried to ruin sport careers of famous bodybuilders ALBERTAS REMEIKA, JURIJ GUSEV (Юрий Гусев), ROLANDAS BUCINSKAS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS, and in 1987 again SAULIUS MISEVICIUS and VIKTORAS JUCYS. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS learned that OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR) wants to leave the U.S.S.R. and emigrante to Finland. For political reasons at the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS forced the judges not to give Over All Winners title to OLEV ANNUS. This way the Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS.

After the 1986 „Amber prix International“ to develop idea of a new „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS invited most important representatives of the R.S.F.S.R VLADIMIR SUBOV and VLADIMIR DUBININ to his appartments. Also an active Contest organizer ARKADIJ KASANSKIJ (Аркадий Кашанский, Ukrainian SSR) was invited too. VLADIMIR SUBOV took his Russian bodybuilder GEORGIJ MOSALIOV (Георгий Мосалёв) to the meeting as well. Only a close friend of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the most important bodybuilding organizer from Tallinn (Estonian SSR) INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002) was missing. In 1986 for several years he stopped his activities in sport.

Building the new federation the main techical work had to be done by the officials of the R.S.F.S.R.. The idea of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was to use their connections in the „U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport“ and in the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“. They lived in the R.S.F.S.R. and it was more easy for them to reach Moscow. They did it through the same mentioned above ROMAN MOROZ and through VASILIJ CAIKOVSKIJ (Василий Чайковский). VASILIJ CAIKOVSKIJ was working at the „Leningrad Institute of Sctientific Sport Resurches “ (Л.Н.И.И.Ф.К., Ленинградском научно исследовательском институте физической культуры). He appeared in bodybuilding in 1986.

So DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS told about his idea of a new „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ to VLADIMIR SUBOV and VLADIMIR DUBININ. This was some kind of shock to them but they agreed to start working. The 1986 „Amber Prix International“ ended with a banquet after which most influental U.S.S.R. bodybuilding persons gathered at DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS appartments. All of them discussed about the future of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding, about the coming recognition of bodybuilding sport in the U.S.S.R. and about the nearest steps organizing new „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“. They spoke about the bodybuilding situation in the World and in the Socialist Countries.

The participants of the meeting decided about the next meeting. It had to be during the coming 1987 „White Nights“ («Белые ночи») Contest in Leningrad. The last steps towards the new „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ had to be done there.

Right after the meeting in Klaipeda the mentioned R.S.F.S.R. officials started their work. During 1986 and 1987 there were emotional discussions about the matter in the „U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport“ and in the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ as well.

After the 1986 „Amber Prix International“ and before the coming 1978 „White Nights“ Competitions DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS with his family as a special guest two times was invited to Leningrad by VLADIMIR DUBININ. The important U.S.S.R. bodybuilding questions were spoken over and definite plans were set up.

Today since 1968 uniting 140 Country-members W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International in various Countries arrange over sixty International events every year.

W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. BRAZIL AIMS TO HOST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

The W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International Headquarters reveived a reguest of the National President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Brazil WANDER PRIMENTA to organize the 35-th W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. World Championship in Brazil in November, 2024. That will be the first Official Recognized International Contest of the Officially Recognized International Federation in America. We would like to underline that it would be not a festival, not an expo but International Contest.

(World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International unites 140 Country – Members and organizes nearly 60 annual Amateur and Professional International Events World Wide. Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader.

Crowning it‘s 50 years of International Bodybuilding activities, the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. works on the Unique Global International Bodybuilding Project - the „World Bodybuilding Encyclopedia“ («Энциклопедия всемирного культуризма», “Pasaulio kultūrizmo enciklopedija”).

HISTORIC F.I.H.C. BODYBUILDING „MR. UNIVERSE“ CONTESTS.

Since 1947 until 1969 a member of the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. (previor F.I.H., Federation Internationale Halterophile) rulled the World‘s official bodybuilding sport and organized International bodybuilding contests. The Over All Champions of the first F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ competitions were pupils of BOB HOFFMAN (Robert Collins Hoffman, 1898-1985) Americans STEVE STANKO (1917 – 1978; 1947 F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ in 1947 in Philadelphia, USA) and JOHN GRIMEK (John Carroll Grimek, 1910-1998; 1948 F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ during the „Olympic Games“ in London, UK).

In 1963 following F.I.H.C. regulations the U.S.S.R. Sport Ministry (Goskomsport) set the first in the World‘s sport history International Bodybuilding Organization. International Sport Federation I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) was established only in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia).

WHO AND HOW CREATED „U.S.S.R. BODYBUILDING FEDERATION“.

We reached the year of 1986 working on the second book of the „World Body Building Encyclopedia“ („Pasaulio kultūrizmo enciklopedija“, «Энциклопедия всемирного культуризма»). We will publishe special report about who and how created the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») in 1987. The new federation was recognized by the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport (U.S.S.R. Goskomsport, Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.). Until this everybody was satisfied with the „formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Fdederation“ (U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Comission, Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики) which was set at the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation (Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.). All was satisfied but not everybody. We will tell who and for what reasons and how after 12 years break brought VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин) back to bodybuilding in 1986.

NOMINATION NATIONAL PRESIDENT W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. MACEDONIA.

Today the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International unites 140 Country – Members and organizes nearly 60 annual Amateur and Professional International Events World Wide. Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader. W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. does not makes festivals, it works for official sport.

On December 3, 2023 Danov Pancho was appointed to the position of the National President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Republic Macedonia.

The International W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. federation gives all rights to the National Federation W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Republic Macedonia to develop fitness and bodybuilding on professional and conditional levels. This nomination is valued until January 1, 2025.

1985 „AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL“

The prohibition of bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist countries lasted from 1973 until 1987. In 1987 in Kubenka (R.S.F.S.R.) was established the official „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.»). The prosecution of bodybuilding was so fierce in 1977. Then in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS (Др. ЭДМУНДАС ДАУБАРАС) dared to write bodybuilding defending petition. He personally brought it to Moscow and presenetd to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.) as well as to other highest U.S.S.R. political institutuins. No one of Socialist bodybuilders supported DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS then. All were afrayed. After this the prosecution of bodybuilders became softer and softer every year.

In 1985 bodybuilders in the U.S.S.R. felt more freedom. Everybody felt comming „Perestrojka of Gorbachov“ («Прерстройка Горбачёва»). Why for many years on the President of the I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, the Presidents of N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM and IVAN DUNBAR, the President of W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) SERGE NUBRET were in touch with „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federagtion“ («Федерация культуризма г. Клайпеда») that was represented by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS? The answer is – until 1987 „Klaipeda Bodybuilding federation“ was the only one official federation in the U.S.S.R.. All other bodybuilding units were not registered officially and worked more or less illegal. And DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was the only one among the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders who knew foreign languages. Through communication of the mentioned persons long lasting friendly relations were built.

In 1985 traditionally the most important bodybuilding comopetition in the USSR was the „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023). That was the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). At the 1985 „Amber Prix International“ participated 56 bodybuilders representing Lithuanian SSR, Latvian SSR, R.S.F.S.R., Belorussian SSR and Ukrainian SSR. The Category Winners at the 1985 „Amber Prix International“ were: juniors - OLEG ZUR (Олег Жур), VIKTORAS JUCYS, LINAS BEKESIUS (all from Lithuanian SSR) and among Main Categories - VINCAS DUBICKAS, VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, ALGIRDAS IVANAUSKAS bei SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (again all from Lithuanian SSR). Over All Winners were: VIKTORAS JUCYS ir VINCAS DUBICKAS.

The second by the importance U.S.S.R. contest was held in Tallinn (Estonian SSR) „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 - 1989). 47 bodybuilders from Lithuanian SSR, Latvian SSR, Estonian SSR, Ukrainian SSR, R.S.F.S.R., Belorussian SSR. The Category Winners were: Juniors - ROMAN BEREZOVYJ (Roman Berezovyj, Роман Березовый, Ukrainian SSR) ir RAIN KIMBER (Rein Kimber, Estonian SSR), Main Categories – Estonians INDREK OTSUS (Indrek Otsus), PAVEL KOSENKO (Павел Колсенко), AIN PAAVO ir EDMUNDAS GUDAVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR). Over All Winners were: ROMAN BEREZOVYJ ir INDREK OTSUS. In 1985 it was the last time we saw INNAR MARDO (1946 – 2002) as International Contest organizer. After this he dissapeared until 1996.

City of Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) organized two contests: traditional „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубок комсомола») and the „Over All Winners Cup“ („Absoliučių čempionų taurė“, «Кубок абсолютных чемпионов»). 24 bodybuilders from P.N.R. (Polska Narodna Respublika), D.D.R. (Deutsches Demokratishe Republik, German Democratic republic), CSSR (Czechoslovakian SSR), R.S.F.S.R., Ukrainian SSR and Lithuanian SSR. That was first time when after 1978 bodybuilders of Czechoslovakian SSR came to the U.S.S.R.. Then in 1978 Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ (формальная «Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS due to his envy broke the common bodybuilding competitions in Lithuanian SSR and in Czechoslovakian SSR (read about it in our earlier articles). The Category Winners in 1985 were: PETER BUTZE (D.D.R.), ODRES ZEMBA (C.S.S.R.), VIKTORAS JUCYS (Lithuanian SSR) ir SERGEJ ZAICEV (Сергей Зайцев, R.S.F.S.R.).

Another one Contest in Kaunas was organized first time - the „Over All Winners Cup“. 12 bodybuilders of Estonian SSR, Lithuanian SSR, Belorussian SSR and R.S.F.S.R. took part at the event. The first three places were taken by SAULIUS MISEVICIUS, VINCAS DUBICKAS ir ALGIRDAS IVANAUSKAS (all from Lithuanian SSR).

In 1985 ARKADIJ KASANSKIJ (Аркадий Кашанский) went on organizing competitions in Charkov (Ukrainian SSR). This time 25 bodybuilders from Lithuanian SSR, R.S.F.S.R. and Ukrainian SSR took part at the competition. The Over All Winners were VIKTORAS JUCYS (Juniors) and VALERIJ LUTCAK (Валерий Лутцак, Main categories, Ukrainian SSR).

First time competition was organized in Kronstadt (Кронштадт, R.S.F.S.R.). The Over All Winner was BORIS RAJEV (Борис Раев) from R.S.F.S.R.. Also in 1985 local contests were held in Latvian SSR, Belorussian SSR and Estonian SSR.

In 1985 Czechoslovakian SSR held two traditional competitions ‚ „Sandow“ and „Trener“. The Category Winners of „Trener“ Contest were VINCAS DUBICKAS (Lithuanian SSR) and Czechoslovaks ANTON HOLIC, JAN CERNY, MILAN ROLINEC. Supported by the Sport Ministry of the Czechoslovakian SSR bodybuilders of this Country went on participating at the I.F.B.B. World and Europe Championships. They were the only ones from all Socialist World. Other Countries had strong Communist restrictions. In 1985 as well as in the previous 1984 European Champion‘s title went to MIROSLAV JASTERBSKI. By the way, former best U.S.S.R. bodybuilder OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR) emigrated to Finland. Then at the same 1985 I.F.B.B. Europe Championship he was second in his category.

At the competition participated 47 bodybuilders from the Lithuanian SSR, Latvian SSR, Estonian SSR, R.S.F.S.R., Belorussian SSR and Ukrainian SSR.
